The Story of Porcelain Sara Ware Bassett 9781147941937 Books
Theo is a young man going with his father to the fishing camp for the annual month long vacation for the first time. While there he meets a gentleman who begins telling him about the history of porcelain from the beginning of history to the present time. This is a 1919 publication, there are minor reference to "the war" (world war 1)I did not enjoy this work as much as others by Sara Ware Bassett, Theo suffers an accident early in the story and is laid up through most of the first half of the book, so the first half of the book is history of porcelain without the activities that Sara would normally include in her "story", during the last half of the book Theo is active but the "story" line remains weak. Theo's interest in porcelain is very high, but there is no clear rational for his desire to learn about it.
As for the history of porcelain, I can't speak to it's accuracy but it appeared to cover all the major points of making things out of clay through the history of mankind. The last half of the book is visits to a (1919 modern) porcelain factory. The depth of coverage was not strong, and the detail weak.
If you need to learn about the history of porcelain this is probably a less painful read then a text book, but it does not strike me as read for pleasure book, unless you have an interest in the history of porcelain.

The Story of Porcelain Sara Ware Bassett 9781147941937 Books Reviews
Must have for educating young people about how everyday objects came about. Written in enjoyable story form, you will likely learn something you didn't already know. I have several of Sara Ware Bassett's other books and all are a fun read while learning painlessly.
